The Mass of Christian Burial for Sheila A. Griffin, 75 of rural Rochester,MN., will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday (April 13, 2024) at St. Bridgets Catholic Church in Simpson,MN. with Rev. Kevin Connolly officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Sheila Griffin died on Monday (March 25, 2024) following a lengthy illness with COPD, at Mayo Clinic Rochester - St. Mary’s Hospital where she had been a patient for the past month.
Sheila Agnes Griffin was born on October 2, 1948 in Rochester,MN to Walter and Agnes ( Halloran) Griffin. She grew up on the family farm and attended country schoolhouse District No. 82, before attending Lourdes HS, graduating in 1966. Sheila went to Rochester Community College for 2 years and then attended the U of Minnesota graduating with a Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts. She enlisted into the US Army serving 4 years including duty with the Defense Language Institute in Monterey,CA, at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo,TX. and overseas in Augsburg, Germany. Following her honorable discharge, she was employed with the financial aid office at California State University. Sheila returned to MN and was employed at the Chatfield Music Lending Library for a short time. She was then employed with Mayo Clinic in Family Medicine until her retirement in 2014. She lived on the Griffin Family Farm where she enjoyed gardening and helping with some animal chores. Sheila enjoyed creating art, painting and drawing and was an avid reader. She helped in caring for their parents and loved time spent with her large extended family.
Sheila is survived by 2 sisters and 3 brothers – Mary Frances (John) Gillich of Stewartville; Patrick(Bridget) Griffin of Rochester; Daniel (Faye)Griffin of rural Rochester; Timothy Griffin of Minneapolis,MN and Roseann(Charles) Melby of Rochester; brother-in-law - Al Walczak of Valrico,FL ; 13 nieces and nephews and 29 great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother – William and sister– Kathleen Walczak.
